| St. John's Place Commerce Center Prototype Warehouse/Office Building |
Salem, Virginia
Project Completion: 2006 |
This building was the first structure in a new industrial park in Salem. The developer wanted a warehouse and office building that offered the flexibility and economy of a pre-engineered metal building structure with a facade that created an upscale look befitting the hopeful clients.
Without a specific tenant at the time of construction, the building shell is designed to be easily altered to tenant or buyers needs without seriously altering the exterior look. Knock-out panels of contrasting brick are spaced over the exterior walls to allow windows or other equipment to be inserted as required. The facade is an updated version of the masonry factory and office buildings that graced industrial areas in the early twentieth century. A modern commercial storefront has been inserted between brick corners to provide office space and a showroom. |

| Federal Express Cargo Storage Facility |
Roanoke, Virginia
Project Completion: 2000
|
This 14,500 square foot aluminum-framed fabric structure within the airport security perimeter provides specialized spaces and features for high-volume cargo sorting and loading to both planes and trucks.
The sprung fabric structure was selected by FedEx for this installation because the airport owns the site and leases it to FedEx. At some date, FedEx could be required to return the site to its pre-building condition and a paved parking lot. The sprung structure can be taken down and moved or resold as needed by FedEx. This structure also provided an economical clear span space with built-in skylighting.
