VWCC: ADA Ramp

Roanoke, Virginia
Project Completion: 1998

New Construction

MarshWitt was commissioned to design an ADA-compliant, covered route from Webber Hall to Duncan Hall in the heart of Virginia Western Community College's South campus. The original intent was solely to provide accessibility to both Weber and Duncan Halls; as the project developed, however, the curved walkway became a unifying physical and visual element between Webber, Duncan, Craig, and Chapman Halls.

The ramp has also become a major pedestrian thoroughfare on the South campus as well as a meeting and gathering place for students, faculty, and staff. The walkway features two lighting systems for night, one to provide pleasing accent lighting and the other to illuminate the entire structure.
