First Presbyterian on Court Square

Comprehensive Master Plan

This historic urban church building has expanded to the limits of the downtown property. Expansion has been hampered by existing adjacent structures.

Acquisition of an adjacent building and the decision to demolish and rebuild an existing structure allowed for needed expansion.

Our first challenge was to develop a master plan to solve these problems, preserving the character of the existing church complex while modernizing it and adding new spaces.

The solution began with a programming phase and multiple meetings with ministry leaders and staff to develop a long range needs assessment. Relocation of existing uses allowed expansions, consolidation of services and an improved functional layout. Security and convenience were the priority factors of the design.

The final exterior solution duplicates and preserves the historic character of the facility.
