Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy
Weyers Cave, Virginia
Project Completion: 2003
New Construction
MarshWitt Associates programmed, designed, and managed the construction of a 56000 SF training complex for the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy, which is jointly operated under a charter agreement by 31 local governments.
Three specific sites were investigated for the proposed facility with MarshWitt preparing preliminary designs and cost analyses for the facility at all locations. After making site selection and real estate acquisition recommendations to the Academy, we advanced to the architectural programming stage of the project by holding round-table discussions with over 70 individual police and sheriff’s departments throughout the service area.
The preliminary studies led to full A/E services for design, construction documents, and construction administration. Of interest is the complex's geothermal heating and cooling system, which has significantly reduced the Academy's annual energy costs.
